Local Accommodations
Despite its name, the Lake Merritt Hotel is not available for accommodations (they only offer 30-day corporate stays). However, there are many excellent hotels in the area.

The Marriott is a clean and comfortable modern hotel. The location in downtown
Oakland is the closest to the Lake Merritt Hotel. We have a block of rooms
reserved, so please mention the "Berk-Marcus" wedding and book
by December 24th to get the special rate of $89/night.
Ask for a room on the 5th floor or higher if you want a view. The hotel is
about a 2 minute drive from the Lake Merritt Hotel. If you don't rent a car
it would be a short cab ride. Parking is $14/day.

A clean and reasonably priced hotel about half way between the Oakland airport
and the Lake Merritt Hotel just off of highway 880. We have a block of rooms
here as well, so mention the group number GR196R and the "Berk-Marcus" wedding.
They offer a free shuttle to locations within 5 miles, which includes pickup
from the Oakland airport (call after you land), to the Lake Merritt Hotel
for the wedding, and to BART. Be sure to ask for a renovated room ("executive
suite")
with a "water view". The hotel is about a 5 minute drive from the
Lake Merritt Hotel.

A modern hotel right on the San Francisco Bay with excellent amenities and free parking. If you stay here, you should definitely rent a car. The hotel is about a 15 minute drive from the Lake Merritt Hotel.

A nice historic hotel near the UC Berkeley campus and Telegraph Ave. It is across the street from the University Art Museum. The hotel is about 15 minutes from the Lake Merritt Hotel by car.
Travel Arrangements
We recommend flying into Oakland (OAK) or San Francisco (SFO) airports. Oakland airport is more convenient to the East Bay. San Francisco airport (SFO) is about an hour from the East Bay on the BART subway system. There are also many shuttle services, like Bayporter Express, that will pick you up at either airport and drop you off wherever you are staying.
For car rentals try Hotwire, Orbitz, Travelocity, or Yahoo! Travel. Let us know if you have any problems.
Directions to the Lake Merritt Hotel
From the North: Take 80 West to 580 East (toward Hayward). Take the Harrison Street exit. Turn right onto Harrison. Go through three stoplights on Harrison and then bear left onto Lakeside Drive. Follow Lakeside for three blocks and you will be forced to bear right onto Madison. The hotel will be immediately on your left. Entrance is on Madison.
From the East (Walnut Creek): Take 24 West to 580 East (toward Hayward). Take the Harrison Street exit. Turn right onto Harrison. Go through three stoplights on Harrison and then bear left onto Lakeside Drive. Follow Lakeside for three blocks and you will be forced to bear right onto Madison. The hotel will be immediately on your left. Entrance is on Madison.
From San Francisco: Take the Bay Bridge (80 East) to 580 East (toward Hayward). Take the Harrison Street exit. Turn right onto Harrison. Go through three stoplights on Harrison and then bear left onto Lakeside Drive. Follow Lakeside for three blocks and you will be forced to bear right onto Madison. The hotel will be immediately on your left. Entrance is on Madison.
From the South Bay and the Oakland Airport: Take 880 North. Take the Oak Street/Lakeside Drive exit. Turn right onto Oak and get into the left lane. Oak becomes Lakeside after 14th Street. Lakeside veers left just before Madison. Turn left onto Madison. The hotel will be immediately on your left, on the corner of Madison and Lakeside. Entrance is on Madison.
From the Civic Center BART Station: Go north on Broadway to 14th Street. Turn right on 14th Street and go 5 blocks to Jackson Street. Turn left of Jackson. Go to the end of Jackson and turn right onto Lakeside. Go one block and turn right onto Madison. The hotel will be immediately on your left, on the corner of Madison and Lakeside. Entrance is on Madison.
Parking: The Lake Merritt Hotel has a limited number of off-street valet parking spaces, however there is ample street parking available on Madison and Jackson streets.
